I was going to post Healing Steps 4, but wasn’t able to get to it today.
Instead, I want to post a link to an article I just discovered about the suicide of Megan Meiers, a victim of cyber bullying, instigated not by her peers, but by the mother, Lori Drew, of one of her friends. The article, ABC News: Family Linked to Girl’s Suicide Harassed was a particularly difficult one for me to read.
Apparently, the mother of a one of Megan’s friends, opened a fake MySpace acccount, posed as a boy, befriended Megan Meier, and then after winning her trust, turned on her with others online. According to what I read, this mother was aware the girl had problems with depression and suffered from low self-esteem. They lived just down the street from each other.
Here is a November 16th article that goes into a little more detail as to the events and emotional state of mind of Megan leading up to her suicide.
This is one of the worst cases of relational aggression/cyber bullying I have read, mainly because it was orchestrated and perpetuated by a grown woman onto a child who was just entering adolescence.
I don’t know what to say about it at this moment. I’m speechless…I’ll have to come back to this later…
