Video: Women in Art

Well, it should be called European Women in Art, but I found this perception of women through the eyes of various artists over a span of 500 years interesting. What got me was the expression in their eyes and the “smile”.

500 years of subtle gentleness and almost imperceptible smiles for the ones who did have them. I had to wonder, is there any room for passion or a good sudden belly laugh? Even in the more modern abstract art, it’s all very passive.

While I did enjoy this video and was struck by its beauty, I, also, couldn’t help asking where does anger go when the ideal of womanhood is portrayed as a subdued state? Is it any wonder that it should find expression through the retractable and hidden claws of relational aggression?
