Let’s go for authentic. Let’s go for speaking with a true voice, for creating the space for our angers and fears and jealousies, and all those things that make us feel uncomfortable, to be heard.
Let’s go for being real. Not abusive or abrasive, though there will be some who will accuse us of that, if we finally object to treatment we’ve always acquiesed to or actually speak up on our behalf…or anything else that rocks the boat of someone else’s convenience. Let’s be the judge of that, and allow ourselves the freedom to be real with who and what we are.
Let’s own our darkness, our temper, our fears and insecurities, so that we may recognize the light when the sun truly does rise.
Let’s wish for not only all good things, but in embracing those, let us make room for the not so good things. Because we are human, and our power lies in embracing our humanity, not denying it.
We’re not two dimensional sugar and spice. But our three dimension means shadows and valleys, and each part is just a much of the terrain of our inner beauty than anything else.
So this year, in 2007, let’s not strive to be “nice”. Let’s strive to be real.
